Noleta Project Highlight
Hi everyone!
We got some beautiful shots of a project we just wrapped up, out by my high school (go Royals!). We wanted to share the story behind the project as well because who doesn’t love a good story? Honestly, when I really thought about that question, I realized that actually everyone on this earth loves a good story most likely. So here we go!
We have a love/hate with scope creep. As a Design Build model construction company we pride ourselves on developing clear scope, plans, finishes and our value engineering process before a project breaks ground. So scope creep is something that we try as much as we can to avoid by making sure we are planned and calculated on what Kellow Construction will be producing.
Now This isn’t always how it goes…
Sometimes we have clients who start with a smaller vision, and then something about having access to a design build team in their lives and homes, makes them be like “Wow! I am so happy with how this is going. I was fence sitting, and now I realize I want to open up the living room and redo our master suite!” Or “Screw it, let’s just do the kitchen now too, dang it, that wasn’t the plan, but we’re doing it.” Kind of thing.
Some people are very joyful and excited about their scope creep. Others are deeply stressed and at times even disturbed and confused about their scope creep. What we do at Kellow Construction is try to support our clients by giving them clear, financially driven information and details about their decisions. This means that it is our job to provide the financials, expectations, nuts and bolts of what “decision X” will entail. Then it’s the client’s job, to execute a choice that feels right for them, with as little pressure, and as many well communicated facts from our team as possible.
In this case our clients were yes people and really wanted to bring this house back to its full glory and potential. Which is truly a dream client for us.
So how do we handle the creep?
We showed up with our values in hand, because that’s what gets us through these wild and wonderful rides:
Responsiveness
As the scope crept its way from the bathroom to basically the whole dang house, we kept communication constant. Emails, calls, texts, updated spreadsheets, you name it. When you’re making big decisions mid project, you need a team that’s actually reachable. We were there. Fast, clear, and never ghosting. Because responsiveness builds trust, and trust builds beautiful homes.
Professionalism
Construction can get messy, literally and emotionally, but we stayed steady. We ran a clean site, showed up on time, and didn’t let the shifting scope throw us into chaos. Our job was to keep the process smooth and the vibes grounded, even when we were pivoting fast. We’re not here to make excuses, we’re here to get it done, with grace and good manners.
Financial Responsibility
We know money is emotional. And when the scope creeps, so does the budget. That’s why we got crystal clear about cost impacts as they came up. We shared updates in real time, brought solutions to the table, and kept things transparent every step of the way. The clients made the decisions, our job was to make sure they had all the facts to do it with confidence and no surprises.
Excellence
When the Project grew, our standards didn't budge. If anything, we got even more dialed in. Every new room got the same level of care as the first. We stayed focused on craftsmanship, cohesion, and creating something that would still feel good ten years from now. We don't phone it halfway through. If it's got our name on it, it's done right.
Anyways thank you for reading about this project. Please make sure to keep us at the very top of your mind for any projects, big or small, that you know of. We are awesome! I mean it. And we only let other awesome people into our sphere, so we keep it awesome all the way down to the line, and you will LOVE it, I promise
Sincerely,
Emily Kellow
